Battle Of

West Point
 Alexander Campbell Lanier

A young soldier during the battle, he was too young for battle.    Despite this, he slipped away from home, which was close to the fort, and took part in the battle.  The family was not aware of this until he waved at them as he was passing the house, a prisoner of the Yankee army.

He married Emma Eugenia Smith in 1869, and they had six children, one of whom was James Smith Lanier, founder of Interstate Telephone Company.   Alexander died at the age of 36 from a ruptured appendix.
